Why did we choose Squarespace for our website?

The story

When we started Honedon in 2017, we were excited to design our own website to showcase our skills and expertise. Initially, we created a brand for ourselves that we were truly proud of and tried really hard to not only make it cohesive but also expressive of our values. We wanted our brand to look cool but also represent a culture of new designers and creative people who enjoy creating. As such, when the time came to design our website, we went all in. We designed for days with web design principles in mind, using our brand elements, and a great passion for our work.

But, our website launch failed.

We can’t pinpoint the reason as there were several. Firstly, we wanted the website to be programmed exactly how we designed it, and that was nearly impossible for the programmers we contracted. Moreover, when we launched a half-decent website that could be created, we got into some hosting troubles. All in all, our first website launch turned out disastrous. So on we went with other website attempts, other domains, and other challenges.

Why did our website become such a big challenge?

Because we were seeking perfection. We have managed to pinpoint this reason now, after a lot of reflection. If you are an artist, you will understand. It is the curse of the artist to have extremely high expectations of oneself and one's work. We as well expected our website to be perfect. When we create for our customers, we create work that we think is amazing within deadlines. But, when we didn’t really have a deadline for our own website, it never ended and it was never done. Whatever we created was not amazing enough for us and we tried to do more and more. As such, the website became not only a challenge but also a frustrating topic.

Why did we choose Squarespace?

Some creatives, especially those who are able to design websites, may look down upon this decision. But, we certainly don’t. We decided to try out Squarespace because we really needed to share our work portfolio and we wanted to get rid of the website frustration. While exploring this platform we realized that it is simple and functional enough to be able to use without any hassle. Furthermore, our projects (link to projects page) speak for themselves when it comes to our credibility to create amazing work. And last but not least, our website is live, our work is live, and we can continue firing up brands and providing excellent services to our customers without worrying about our website.

All in all, we are happy to share that we are using a platform that makes it easy for us, such as Squarespace. We think all artists should make their own lives easier and showcase their work seamlessly with a platform that is built for them. We want to remove all the stigma around this option and the belief that you need to have a very hard time to achieve something great.  Honedon is not a website development company, so this is not a front we are competing in. But come and create your brand with us and you will never look back.
